4 Days Tour from Fes to Marrakech via Sahara Desert

Your journey begins early in the morning with departure from Fes towards the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” known for its clean streets, alpine-style architecture, and cool climate. Continue to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you may encounter wild Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. After lunch in Midelt, the route crosses the scenic Ziz Valley, famous for its thousands of palm trees and lush oasis landscapes. In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Here, you switch to camels for a magical trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay in a traditional or luxury desert camp under the stars.

After sunrise in the desert, return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga village and enjoy breakfast. Then explore the surrounding desert region, starting with Khamlia village, home to the Gnawa people, where you’ll experience traditional desert music. Continue visiting nomad families living in simple tents to learn about their lifestyle. Later, head towards Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet, known for its traditional souk and local markets. Visit the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved ksars in Morocco. Walk through its clay architecture and learn about its history as an important caravan stop. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a riad or hotel near the kasbah.

On the final day, depart towards Marrakech, crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), the highest paved mountain pass in Morocco. Along the way, stop for panoramic views and photos of remote Berber villages built into the mountainsides. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the scenic drive. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening, where your 4-day desert adventure comes to an end with drop-off at your hotel or riad.
